8ish
In India, 8ish isn't a time. It's a disposition. It's the understanding between people who know that the evening begins when it's ready, and not a minute before.
This neighbourhood bar in Mumbai was designed around that understanding. The room doesn't announce itself. It settles you. Warm grey walls, dark wood worn to the right kind of tired, leather that has clearly been sat in by people who stayed too long and didn't mind.
A double-height volume overhead makes the space feel generous without feeling grand. Large pendant fixtures hang low enough to carve the room into something more private than it actually is.
The bar is the one thing that earns attention. Deep maroon marble, a beaten copper back that holds light like it's in no hurry to give it up. You notice it when you walk in and then you stop noticing it, which is exactly how good design works.
Somewhere in the room, a lenticular artwork shifts between DalĂ and Lennon depending on where you're standing. It's a small, deliberate thing. The kind of detail that makes an editor look twice and a guest feel like they found something.
The light is low. The hours are elastic. You came at 8ish. You'll leave when you leave.
