What do you do when a legacy brand approaches you to design their newest iteration?
When a brand expands into a new location, the easiest thing to do is copy-paste. But Woodside Inn never worked that way. Every iteration of Woodside Inn is built around its founding principles: the 4 Cs: Cosy. Comfortable. Classic. And most importantly - Casual. We could never mess with that ethos.
What you may not have consciously noticed is that each Woodside carries an alternative component. It’s not reinvention, but relevance. Every location calibrates itself to its neighbourhood, its site, and the culture it inhabits.
Colaba balances a well-loved, cosy pub and dining across two levels. Andheri integrates indoor and outdoor social rhythms, with a two-sided bar that naturally pulls people out into the night. Bandra expands vertically - layering spaces, introducing cultural programming like karaoke nights, live bands, DJ nights and even movie nights, and allowing the pub to become a cultural host. And the new kid on the block, draws from all three. It preserves the iconic cult following shaped in Bombay, while responding to Bangalore’s deeply rooted, pub-first identity.
And through this iteration, more Cs have emerged - it’s been cumulative. Picking up elements from each Woodside. Calibrated to each location and the community it serves. It’s cultural - with its many frames capturing the essence of its environment, but also responding to what would make customers come back again and again.
And that’s how you create an iconic legacy loved across cities.
